We’re pleased to share that our very own Katharine Perry was one of four recipients of The Rising Star Award this year from Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania. This award is given to new contributors to Junior Achievement who have gone above and beyond in their first few years of service. Katharine was chosen for her support of Junior Achievement in the classroom, at special events and from leadership as a volunteer and board member.
In 2016, Katharine joined the Junior Achievement Young Professionals Board and as of June, she is the newly elected Vice Chair. She has volunteered in the classroom teaching children at Kelly Elementary School and coordinated a Women’s Clay Shoot event as a fundraiser.
As an active member of Junior Achievement, Katharine strongly upholds the organization’s mission to educate children in a capacity that extends beyond the classroom, teaching students real-world skills. Through Junior Achievement students gain skills for workforce readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Katharine sees a close tie to what she does here at Fort Pitt to educating children on business fundamentals and basic economics. Volunteering with Junior Achievement allows her the opportunity to pass on knowledge and help educate children in something she’s passionate about. Congrats, Katharine! We’re inspired by the work you do.
